| MSU scholars receive awards, opportunity to study abroad
Marshall Scholars win free tuition and stay for two years in the United Kingdom, she said. Mukerjee said she plans to study forced migration at the University of Oxford for the first year, and violence, conflict and development at the University of London for the second year. "It's going to be incredible being in Oxford, working in the field with professors who have influenced so much policy already," she said. Jenni Marsh, coordinator of national/international fellowships and scholars, said the MSU community should recognize the great academic and scholarly things students are doing. "I honestly think we need to toot our own horn a little more," Marsh said. MSU has had 13 Marshall Scholars since its 1954 inception, making it the top-ranked public Big Ten school and eighth-ranked public school in the country for number of scholars produced.
Wal-Mart unleashes employees in blogs
Microsoft is one of Wal-Mart's biggest suppliers. But that did not stop the Wal-Mart employee in charge of buying computers from panning Microsoft's newest operating system, Vista. "My life has not changed dramatically" because of the new system, he wrote on his blog. "Well, for that matter, it hasn't changed at all." His public burst of candor was not isolated. On the same blog, a video game buyer for Wal-Mart slammed a "Star Wars" film as a "debacle," even though Wal-Mart still sells the movie. Known for its strict, by-the-books culture - accepting a cup of coffee from a supplier can be a firing offense - Wal-Mart is now encouraging employees who do the buying to speak frankly, even critically, about the products the chain carries. An unusual new Web site by Wal-Mart, which was quietly created during the holiday shopping season, has become a forum for unvarnished rants about gadgets, raves about new video games and advice on selecting environmentally sustainable food.
Microsoft expands online software services
Microsoft Corp. is expanding its business software offerings over the internet. The new services include e-mail, calendars, contact lists, webconferencing and videoconferencing. They are online versions of features in Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint software. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) launched the web services in September for businesses with more than 5,000 users. The company is now expanding the services to all companies, with a limited test run starting Monday and a broader rollout planned for the second half of 2008. Microsoft's core business is still traditional licensed software. But under pressure from companies like Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Salesforce.com Inc. (NYSE: CRM) that are making software programs available online, Microsoft is shifting some of its software offerings to the web.

The R500 not only has 3G connectivity, it also has three USB ports to Air's one, and it includes an internal DVD drive, removable battery, a full-size DVI video port, a PC Card slot, Gigabit Ethernet and a Firewire connector. 9/11 Redux
I cannot remember that I have seen anything on TV as effective as the woman Moore shows crying and lamenting the deaths of her relatives, or the scene of American soldiers arresting an innocent Iraqi young man on Christmas Eve. We should be ashamed that an American has produced such an issue, while we still keep the truth away from our audiences. I liked this film not because of the issues it discusses, but because it is funny and lighthearted. I think Egyptian cinemagoers who liked the movie did so for the very same reason. Yes, it is true that it is full of very useful facts, but who would watch a documentary in Egypt if it werent this humorous? Im now very angry with the Saudis after seeing the film. How much money do they have invested in the United States? One of the analysts in the movie said if the Saudis decide suddenly to withdraw their money from the American banks, it would be a big blow for the American economy.
